Apply for IDA Award
The NYS/UUP Joint Labor-Management Committee has announced two (2) separate fundings for the Individual Development Award program. This announcement for members of the Health Sciences Chapter (HSC) of UUP is for the first IDA funding period (“Retroactive period”) which is for activities completed between April 1, 2023 to July 1, 2023. For HSC members, the deadline for submission is December 8, 2023. Information for the second funding period, which will cover activities from July 2, 2023 to July 1, 2024, will be sent at a later date.
The IDA Program is intended to assist eligible employees to develop their full professional potential and to prepare for advancement. Funding may not be awarded to purchase equipment or supplies or to support activities that are not related to their SUNY profession. For activities completed between April 1, 2023 and July 1, 2023, employees may request re-imbursement for up to two projects or activities during this period. However, the total award cannot exceed $2000.
Allowable expenses for activities between April 1, 2023 and July 1, 2023 include:
- Registration fee(s) for conferences or workshops
- Travel and related expenses (including lodging and meals) for conferences/training and documented research/creative activities.
- Tuition at the maximum allowable SUNY rate at the time of application

Applications and required documentation (see below) must be uploaded to UB BOX (https://buffalo.app.box.com/f/77e62ee0d3da4db1b89c26602c211e0e) as a single PDF document. Use your name in the file name plus a numbering if submitting 2 applications. For HSC members, the deadline for submission is December 8, 2023.
The complete application must be a single PDF document with the material in the following order:
- Application form
- Bio sketch or resume
- A description of the project or activity including:
- Type of event, event site and sponsor
- Whether the employee presented a paper or formally participated.
- How this project or activity furthered the employee’s professional development or otherwise assisted in preparing for advancement.
- A brochure, announcement or other relevant material describing the project or activity.
- Details and justification for travel expenses including the type of travel, cost of travel and cost of lodging per night.
- Any other supporting documentation.
- Budget Summary (Part C of the application). Provide expenditures incurred to complete the project or activity. Please refer to Part C: Budget Summary of the application instructions to complete this section. NOTE: “JLMC Funds” on the Budget Summary refers to the amount being requested from the Individual Development Awards Program.
- Any campus contribution or other sources of funding must be explained in the appropriate box(es) under 'Campus Contribution' on the application.
The IDA program is a benefit negotiated by UUP. Continuation of this program is only possible with your support of UUP.
